With products ranging from photographs to longboards to a keyboard made of bamboo, the SHFT pop-up store shines a light on ecologically-minded design. At last night’s opening, partygoers checked out vases made from recycled glass and stools made from rattan poles. Founders Adrian Grenier and Peter Glatzer were joined in the festivities by Angela Lindvall, former co-host of their Alter-Eco television show and their link to the store’s partner, pureDKNY. “With Adrian and Peter, our stars just kind of align. I met them on Alter-Eco and it was kind of a spontaneous last minute decision [to co-host]. We were finishing each other’s sentences,” Lindvall said.
The pop-up store, an offshoot for the SHFT website, specializes in sustainable products—with a focus on actual design not just ecological footprints. Co-founder Peter Glatzer explained their focus: “We weren’t preaching to people, but this art carries this great message, and this design is sustainable, and isn’t that cool?”
Adrian Grenier, best known as the cocky Vinnie Chase on HBO’s Entourage, is a bit more humble than his alter ego. “We wanted to do our part on a local level. We’re not in politics—we’re in entertainment. We do what we can.” However, Grenier did not shy away from the eco-warrior persona, taking on California’s “Dirty Energy” Prop 23 bill. “Prop 23 infringes on what we’re doing and we take it personally,” added Glatzer. “We’re not a political organization, but [this is] personal.”
